Join UsNew members are always extremely welcome. We are a friendly group of about 50 singers who rehearse weekly in term time from 7.30pm to 9.30pm in The Town Hall, Corsham.
A typical rehearsal begins with a warm up of vocal exercises, before launching into detailed practice of the pieces that we are preparing for performance. There is a lively break midway through the rehearsal for notices and a raffle. Once a month we hold a Bring and Buy to enhance our funds. The good news is that we are a non audition choir, although commitment to regular attendance at rehearsals is expected. The ability to read music, although not essential, is a big advantage.
Corsham Choral gives three, sometimes four concerts a year. The Spring and Autumn concerts are usually of classical choral works, e.g. we performed Bruckner's Mass in E minor and Schubert's Mass in G in March 2011 and will be performing a programme of music by Bach, Handel and Haydn in November. The Summer concert is always in a lighter vein: in June 2011 we performed a selection of opera choruses. We are currently busy rehearsing for our concert on 19th November. That will be followed by our Christmas concert on Wednesday 14th December - this is always a festive event, with audience participation.
The subscription is currently £95 a year if paid in full in September or £36 per term. There is also a small charge made to cover the hire of music scores.
If you are new to the area, joining the choir is a great way to make new friends. Perhaps you have been inspired by television programmes such as ‘Last Choir Standing’, and thought you might like to experience the enjoyment of singing with others. Why not come along to our rehearsals for a few weeks to find out whether you like us and our music?
